Dark Heresy - Paths of Faith
North Continent Theatre
The newest campaign region opened up by the Imperial Guard and the location for much of Paths of Faith.
Protasia‘s landmasses are divided into several continents. The largest continent in the south has, up until recently, been the sole point of conflict between the Imperial Guard and Protasian Free Army. As more regiments arrive on the planet however Imperial high command has ordered the opening of several further theatres of conflict. The North Continent is not as heavily populated as the south, being merely heavily industrialised rather than a true hive. It is also seperated from the rest of Protasia’s landmasses by toxic and tempestuous ocean. With a strong advantage in airpower Imperial command hopes that the traitor forces in the North Continent will become isolated and forced to surrender or face total annihilation.
Imperial forces in the North Theatre have had mixed success, having secured a small region of around 4-5km around Imperial HQ and constructed a Forward Base the advance has stalled. A surprise offensive by the Protasian Free Army in the South has drawn priority supplies away, notably this has drawn away much of the Imperial air power. The North Continent forces now must rely upon slow and vulnrable supply ships to bring much needed ammunition, fuel and replacement troops from safe landing zones on islands several hundred kilometres to the south. To make matters worse several elite units, brought in to break the deadlock, have disappeared.
Almost all of the North Continent is covered by industrialised urban areas so the fighting is almost exclusivly conducted by infantry formations with limited armoured support. Snipers, infiltrators and booby traps are lethal hazards. The casualty rate among the Imperial Guard has actually been well within expected margins (approx 45% of the initial landing forces are still operational) but as raw recruits arrive the number of casulties are increasing and supplies are now more stretched than ever.
